Cisco Optics Podcast Episode 23

Cisco Optics Podcast Episode 23. The way to Make Coherent Optics Small and Pluggable, with Tom Williams. Half 4 of 5.

Coherent optics have been the go-to resolution for high-end optical transport methods for years. Ultimately, these optics had been modularized and with current advances in DSP design and optics manufacturing, this know-how is now out there in small kind issue pluggable modules. Cisco acknowledged the significance of this know-how and bought the trade’s chief on this area, Acacia Communications in March of 2021. In Episode 23, we proceed our dialog with Tom Williams, Director of Technical Advertising, who joined Cisco through the Acacia acquisition. We speak about elementary limits of communication after which get into requirements.
– Pat Chou, Cisco Optics Product Supervisor

Tom Williams leads advertising and marketing efforts for the Acacia coherent optics group that was acquired by Cisco in March 2021. Tom has spent over 20 years growing optical transmission tools starting from 10G to 1.2T. He participates in a wide range of coherent standardization actions in OIF, IEEE and Open ROADM and is co-chair of the OpenZR+ MSA. Tom spent almost 15 years in varied administration roles at Optium, the place he participated within the firm’s 2006 IPO and 2008 acquisition by Finisar.
